One of the best things to do in Bangkok, Thailand is to visit the Book Expo Thailand when it opens at the Queen Sirikit Convention Center. This month it is the 16th Book Expo Thailand, and with a total of more than 900 booths and over 400 publishers, you’ll find books from all over Thailand and all over the world.
This year’s theme is “Read Anytime, Read Everywhere” with a goal of getting Thais to read more often. Be warned though, unless you want to be in the biggest crowd you’ve ever seen, avoid the book fair on the weekends and visit during the week instead. The 16th Book Expo Thailand opens every day at 10am and stays open until 9pm, so there’s plenty of time to go without braving the merry throngs.
Although, of course, most books on display at the book fair are in Thai, you’ll also find booths from English language bookstores like Kinokuniya and Asia Books, as well as specialty publishers from around 20 different countries, with most of their books in English.
Look, too, for books in English on Thai history. They always have a good selection and, every time I get to the book fair, I come out with five or six history books I’ve never seen anywhere else.
Take the underground to Queen Sirikit Convention Center. The train station opens up right into the center. It couldn’t be more convenient to get there.
