Red Bull Race of Champions in Bangkok, Thailand: Formula One Grand Prix Next?

There’s been talk for quite a while now about Thailand bidding to host a Formula One Grand Prix. Formula One racing is becoming increasingly popular in Asia, and specifically here in Bangkok, Thailand, where motor racing fans are desperate to see a Formula One race in their home city. That is why it’s good news for them that Red Bull will be hosting their own motor racing event this year in Thailand this year. To be called the Red Bull Race of Champions, the racing event will be held at Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok, from December 14th to the 16th, and is said to be a ‘test run’ for a future Formula One Grand Prix race.

The Red Bull Race of Champions will be a pretty small event, featuring just 16 drivers from eight countries, but Formula One drivers Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher will be involved, which will definitely give the race even more prestige.

Organizers are thrilled the race is coming to Thailand and say, even though it’s cost the country around 400 million baht ($12.9 million) to put it on, they expect to make at least 100 million baht ($3.2 million) in profit.

While the Red Bull Race of Champions has only been held outside Europe once before, it’s about time a race was held in Thailand. After all, Red Bull the drink was invented in Thailand and helped create the wealth of one of Thailand’s richest men, the late Chaleo Yoovidhya. His son Chalerm Yoovidhya is currently working closely with the Red Bull Race of Champions organizers to ensure the Bangkok race is a huge success.
