What to Buy a Thai Woman or Girl for Valentine’s Day – Pretty Presents

If you’re in Thailand and have a Thai girlfriend or wife or, if you’re living elsewhere but have a significant other in Thailand, it can be difficult to decide what to buy her as a Valentine’s Day gift. Thai girls take Valentine’s Day very seriously and choose gifts carefully for loved ones. In return, they expect you to do the same thing. Don’t worry though. Buying the perfect gift for a Thai significant other actually isn’t that difficult. Follow these tips and you’ll end up with the ideal gift for that special Thai someone.

The Best Valentine’s Gifts For Thai Women

Thai women are quite picky about Valentine’s gifts. They expect to receive something that’s thoughtful, that you’ve obviously spent some time choosing carefully and that matches their taste. If you choose the wrong gift or, heaven forbid, something they find offensive or cheap, your relationship with that Thai woman could quickly sour and even end. To prevent this from happening and to make your Thai girl happy, consider the following perfect Valentine’s gifts.

Flowers – Even more so than in the west, flowers on Valentine’s Day in Thailand are extremely important. Luckily, even on Valentine’s Day in Thailand, you can buy some pretty extravagant flower arrangements for not that much money. Remember too, most Thai women love cute stuff. So a big floral arrangement that includes a stuffed animal or a cute doll will also be highly appreciated. No matter how old the woman is.

Don’t forget too, even if you’ve bought another gift, getting flowers in addition is still a good idea. For 200 baht ($5.50) you can buy a cute bouquet of flowers all wrapped up in colorful cellophane and with a teddy bear attached. Do so. She’ll love it.

Purses – Thai women love purses and carry a different one with just about every new outfit. If you can afford it, a designer bag will go down a treat. If you can’t, at least try to buy a leather one. If you look carefully, you can get a nice leather purse for less than 800 baht ($25) and it’s just about guaranteed to win you a huge smile.

Cuddly Toys – Around Valentine’s Day in Thailand, you’ll see even more cuddly toys appearing around Thailand. When I first arrived in Thailand, I thought it was for the kids but learned very fast that, no, adult women love them too. Buy your girlfriend or wife a stuffed animal and see how quickly she decides she loves you even more. Even 40-year-old-plus women love cuddly toys and will appreciate one for Valentine’s Day. Particularly if it’s holding a big red heart that says I love you.

Snacks, Chocolate and Candy – Thais love food more than just about any other nationality so a great way to show your love is to give your Thai girl chocolate, Thai snacks or candy. One of my Thai friends decided she was really in love with her boyfriend when he drove across Bangkok to buy her favorite cake. The cost to him? 35 baht ($1) and gas for his car. And she was even more in love.

Make Up, Perfume and Lotion – Thai women spend hours hanging around department store make-up departments and drug stores buying cosmetics and smelly stuff. If you visit a Thai girl’s apartment, you won’t be able to believe how much make-up, perfume and lotion she owns. Buy your Thai girl a cute make-up set, perfume or a lovely hand or body lotion and she’ll be a very happy girlfriend or wife.

Jewelry – Honestly, it doesn’t even have to be expensive. Thai girls love to wear pretty bracelets, bangles, necklaces, earrings and pins and costume jewelry is just as good as the real thing. Check out the local markets and inexpensive shopping malls and buy her a beautiful bracelet and matching necklace. That, with a bouquet of roses and she might just end up being yours forever.

The main thing with giving a Thai girl gifts is that it should be something that matches her taste and something that shows you put some thought into it. Make sure it’s packaged beautifully (many shops and department stores can do this for you for a small fee) and, along with some flowers, and dinner in a Thai restaurant and both you, and her, will have the perfect Valentine’s Day
