Where to Celebrate Halloween in Bangkok, Thailand

You should celebrate Halloween in Bangkok,  it is incredibly fun

If you know all about Bangkok, Thailand being the capital of a Buddhist country, you may be shocked to know many people do celebrate Halloween here.

Thailand is a Buddhist country but Bangkok has a sizeable expat community, many of whom celebrate Halloween. There are also a lot of Thais who celebrate Halloween in Bangkok , regardless of being Buddhist, as Thais love nothing more than having fun and this holiday is certainly that.

There is something for everyone on Halloween in Bangkok, no matter if you are a guy, a girl, single, married or a parent. Here are some of the best things to do to celebrate Halloween in Bangkok no matter who you are or what you like to do.

Celebrate Halloween in Bangkok for Parents and Kids – If your child goes to an international school or a bilingual school in Bangkok, it is likely the school will be having Halloween festivities. Schools often have a Halloween concert, a Halloween costume party, and the kids spend the week before Halloween making Halloween crafts.

At the malls in Bangkok, there are Halloween costume competitions for the kids, and you will see kids in almost every mall, both Western and Thai kids, running around in the cutest costumes. You can also buy Halloween costumes at most of the big department stores – Emporium, Siam Paragon, and Central World malls have the best selection – as well as in Chinatown (Yaworat), which has an awesome selection of Halloween masks and costumes.

Your kids can also trick or treat around by the American Embassy in Bangkok.

Halloween in Bangkok for Singles – Bangkok is a fun place for singles at Halloween. Practically every bar will have Halloween festivities – fancy dress parties (costume parties) and competitions, specials on drinks, door prizes and tons of other stuff.

The girlie bar places especially get into the fun and so you will  see cute girls everywhere dressed up in vampire costumes, as sexy Japanese anime characters, cute cartoon girls and Thai ghosts (Asian ghosts are incredibly scary looking and always freak me out!)

One of the best places for singles on Halloween in Bangkok is Silom, Soi 4, which is a long street of restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs. Here, the gay community comes out in force with a cool street party and the costumes are fabulous, dahling! Don’t be surprised if you see a few half naked guys too, and boy are they cute!

Also, check out the British pubs along Sukhumvit near the Emporium mall. Most of them have Halloween parties. There will be lots of beautiful Thai girls dressed up in Halloween finery, and loads of drunk British guys.

Nightclubs like Escape, Levels, and Route 66 at RCA also usually throw huge Halloween parties. The cover charge or ticket price can be quite steep but includes one free drink.

Halloween in Bangkok for Couples (Married and Single) – Of course, just because you are a couple, it doesn’t mean you don’t want to go to the bars, pubs and clubs. There will be tons of couples out and about in Bangkok on Halloween and a lot of them will be having the time of their lives.

But, for those who want a bit of a quieter night, check out some of the hotels and restaurants around Bangkok for Halloween fun, as many of them have something special going on. And don’t forget the shopping malls.

Shopping Malls –  Shopping malls in Bangkok throw enormous Halloween sales with reductions of up to 50%. They usually start around October 20th and go on till November 5th. Siam Paragon, Emporium and the Central Department stores especially have good sales, and this is a great time to start stocking up on Christmas gifts too.

Restaurants – A lot of restaurants have Halloween promotions with free drinks, 10% Halloween reductions on certain appetizers and entrees, and prize drawings.

Check out the hundred or so restaurants at Siam Paragon mall, more at MBK mall, Siam Square, and around the Silom area of Bangkok for Halloween deals. The Hard Rock Cafe also has a themed party, as does the Rama Gardens Hotel and The Oriental (Bangkok’s most expensive hotel).

And don’t forget to hit some of the local movie theatres (there are hundreds of them in Bangkok) as they will be showing a couple of scary Halloween movies. If you can, see a Thai or Japanese scary movie. They are even more frightening than Western movies.

As you can see, there is something for everyone in Bangkok on Halloween. If you are in the city at that time, buy a costume, get dolled up and head out to enjoy the fun.
