As if he thinks Thais are stupid people, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has announced the minimum wage in Thailand will be increased in a month’s time. Just a few weeks before the general election of course. How surprising!
The minimum wage hasn’t been increased in Thailand in a couple of years and, with inflation as high as it now is in Thailand (food costs are rising weekly), this minimum wage increase isn’t likely to help the average Thai worker that much. But….will it help Abhisit in the election?
Not likely. The red shirts already know what Abhisit is all about and they’ll be out in force to vote him out of office. An increase in minimum wage or no increase.
Nice try though.
