After a couple of weeks of listening to ridiculous “complaints” about Yingluck Shinawatra from vindictive people all over Thailand, the Election Commission has finally pulled its finger out and endorsed both Yingluck Shinawatra and Abhisit Vejjajiva’s election results. This opens the door for Yingluck to continue on to be confirmed as Thailand’s new prime minister, and Abhisit to sit on the back benches bitching about it and causing trouble.
The Election Commission says their endorsement of the two candidates was unanimous. Not much else they could do really though. After all, did anyone seriously think the red shirts and Pheu Thai were going to sit quietly if the results from this month’s general election were ignored? I’ve lost count of the number of people I heard talking about “a civil war in Thailand” if Yingluck was not endorsed.
Apparently the EC also says it should gradually endorse the remaining MPs-elect needed to meet the required number of at least 475 in time for the opening of the new House of Representatives. The Election Commission’s next meeting is on July 21st.
