Melaka, Malaysia is about a two hour drive from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. One of Malaysia’s best tourist destinations, due to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Melaka (also known as Malacca) attracts low budget travelers and backpackers from all over the world, all eager to see the city’s incredible history.

Ninety Six Hotel – At only $27 a night for a standard double or twin room, you don’t get a much better cheap hotel deal in Melaka than this lovely budget hotel.

It’s right in the center of the city, just a quick taxi or bicycle rickshaw from historic ruins, churches and Melaka’s famous Christ Church, and within walking distance of Mahkota Parade.

Each guest rooms is extremely minimalistic (ie: not much furniture), but is spotlessly clean and features an en suite bath with shower and tub, flat screen TV with cable and free Wi-Fi internet. Breakfast is also included in the rate.

There’s a small cafe serving breakfast, lunch and snacks, the hotel has a small computer area if you’re not traveling with a laptop and they also offer free luggage storage.

Hallmark Hotel – Close to the famous Jonker Street, so a wonderful location for shops, the night market and restaurants, the Hallmark Hotel is a lovely budget hotel that still offers clean and comfortable guest rooms in a convenient location. It’s a popular choice for low-budget travelers and backpackers who still want a bit of luxury but don’t want to pay a high price.

Guest rooms have an en suite bath and come with all the amenities – alarm clock, flat screen TV with satellite, hairdryer, coffee and tea maker, DVD player and ironing facilities.

The hotel has a nice cafe for light meals and where you can also eat breakfast, included in the room rate.

There’s a sauna and Jacuzzi, a laundry service and, if you drove, free on-site parking. Rooms start at $28 a night for a double room.

The hotel only recently opened too, so everything still seems new. it’s also wonderfully located, close to shops, boutiques, cafes, restaurants and shopping malls.

Guest rooms come with en suite bath, TV with satellite, coffee and tea maker, free high-speed Wi-Fi internet and a work desk.

There’s a business center, laundry service, free on-site parking and, although there’s no restaurant, the Fenix Inn is only a couple of minutes’ walking distance to some excellent Melaka cafes, restaurants and street stalls and Melaka’s famous historic district is only a five minute taxi ride away.
