Best Restaurants In The Chidlom Area of Bangkok, Thailand

The Chidlom area of Bangkok, Thailand is a high-society (hi-so) place to eat and to shop. With some of the city’s most exclusive malls plus many high-end restaurants in the Chidlom area, people sometimes think it’s impossible to eat here inexpensively. Not true. The Chidlom area of Bangkok has many excellent restaurants, yet most of them are quite cheap. If you’re looking for a beautifully-designed restaurant serving delicious food for an inexpensive price, look no further than these best Chidlom area restaurants.

Ootoya, Central World – I’m a huge fan of Ootoya Japanese restaurants. A chain restaurant, there are locations all over Bangkok, but one of my favorites is the small restaurant located in the Central World Plaza shopping mall. Ootoya has a minimal menu but what they have is spectacular. Noodle and rice dishes, fish, tofu, tonkatsu, salads, and soups. My favorite dish is the rice with chicken and egg, along with a caesar salad. Portions are large and, particularly if you get a set (a main dish with several side dishes), you get a lot of food for not much money. Entrees start around 120 baht ($3.70) and go up to 300 baht ($9) for dishes like salmon – average price being 200 baht ($6). I normally order the grilled chicken with rice and egg set, which comes with miso soup and two other side dishes. At 240 baht ($7.25) it’s a great deal. Ootoya also serves free hot or cold green tea, with as many refills as you want. The atmosphere in the restaurant is minimalistic Japanese and casual.

Circle – A contemporary Californian cuisine restaurant, Circle offers a mix of American and Thai food in a hip, trendy atmosphere. The restaurant has a cute bar on the first floor, a full restaurant on the second and a fashionable garden restaurant outdoors. Try the smoked salmon in a potato pancake for an appetizer, roasted pork rib for an entree and New York cheesecake for dessert. With prices starting at 150 baht ($4.50) up to around 400 baht ($13), you can enjoy a stylish meal in an extremely elegant atmosphere for not much money.

Calderazzo – I love Italian food and Calderazzo on Soi Langsuan serves the best. With outdoor seating surrounded by lush trees and shrubbery and indoor seating in a glass and chrome environment, there’s a style of restaurant for everyone here. What’s even more wonderful about Calderazzo though is they make an effort to serve healthy Italian food but with the authentic, traditional taste. High cholesterol foods are not served at Calderazzo but, from the rich taste, you’d never know it. The vegetables, the pastas, the salads, the seafood and, of course, the decadent desserts are all wonderful. The other thing I love about Calderazzo is the space. Everything feels light and airy and tables are all placed with plenty of room in between, so you never feel like you’re eating on your neighbor’s lap. With the food, the service and the atmosphere, it’s no wonder Calderazzo is known as one of the best Italian restaurants in Bangkok. Two people can eat here, for around 2,000 baht, ($59).
