One thing you will notice in Thailand is Thai men have no problem wearing pink, liking pink roses or driving a pink car. While in the west, pink is thought of as a woman’s color, in Thailand there is no such association. In fact, in Thailand pink is the color for Tuesday. It’s also the color for Chulalongkorn University. So you’ll often see Thai men wearing a pink shirt and sometimes even driving a pink car. If they were born on Tuesday or graduated from Chula, after all, what other color should they like?
So, it was interesting to see a video on The Bangkok Post’s website today of Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung talking about why he drives a pink car almost exactly like that of Paris Hilton – a pink Bentley Continental GT. He was born on a Tuesday, of course.
He goes on to say, though, that his car is not exactly the same as the one driven by Paris. While hers only has two doors, Chalerm’s has four. Chalerm says he bought the car because he “thought it was beautiful”.
