How to Cross Chao Praya River in Bangkok by Ferry Boat

One of the most fun places to take a short boat ride is on the Chao Praya River in Bangkok, and no more so than a quick ferry boat from one side to the other.  The journey across the river takes between 5-10 minutes, depending on where you cross, and some of the ferry boats run 24 hours a day.

To take a ferry boat across the Chao Praya river in Bangkok look for the smaller boats with a fare of just 2-5 baht per trip. You’ll see the locals hopping on and off them and, just watching for a couple of minutes, you’ll realize quickly which boats are just going backwards and forwards on that short distance.

To use one, simply hop on and pay the conductor your fare. Hop off at the other side and, if you want to come back to where you started, repeat. It’s really that easy.

Make sure you have your video camera ready too. You can get some great footage, particularly when the Chao Praya is choppy, or when large boats coming down from China are heading right towards you. Makes for an exciting trip.
