One of my favorite places to travel is Chiang Rai in northern Thailand. A popular destination for budget travelers it offers stunning budget hotels at dirt cheap prices and in beautiful locations you wouldn’t believe. For the best budget hotels in Chiang Rai though, you shouldn’t miss these.
Baan Rub Aroon – One of the most beautiful independent budget hotels in Chiang Rai is Baan Rub Aroon. Located in a traditional Thai house that’s been renovated to accommodate guests, the hotel has the most beautiful guest rooms and offers superb Thai hospitality, particularly for the inexpensive price.
At Baan Rub Aroon, each room has hardwood floors, en suite bath, Wi-Fi internet, satellite TV, air conditioning. Rooms are decorated in traditional Thai style and hearken back to the days before the modern world reached northern Thailand. You also have a choice of various style rooms or, if you really want to stay on the cheap, why not choose a room in a dorm room that sleeps four. The hotel provides breakfast, included in the room rate, and also has a shared kitchen should you prefer to cook your own meals.

Baan Nattawadee Resort – After a few nights at Baan Nattawadee Resort, another of Chiang Rai’s best budget hotels, you’ll never want to leave.
The hotel offers stunning guest rooms, with hardwood floors, decorated in traditional Thai style and featuring en suite bath, satellite TV, refrigerator, Wi-Fi internet, and complimentary bottled water and a free mini bar. Breakfast is included in the room rate and features a choice of Thai or international fare.
Don’t miss taking advantage of the hotel’s massage services, internet cafe, laundry room and, of course, the motorbike or bicycle rental services.
The location of Baan Nattawadee Resort is perfect too. On the outskirts of Chiang Rai, surrounded by rice fields and with views of the mountains and river, yet only minutes away from downtown Chiang Rai and all its
trendy restaurants, cafes, galleries and, of course, the famous Night Market.
Room rates begin at $29 a night for a single room.
De River Boutique Resort – If you want to stay in a relaxing, comfortable and quiet budget hotel in the Chiang Rai area that features superb service, comfortable rooms and in a location that’s beauty is incomparable, then the De River Boutique Resort is your place.
Featuring comfortable guest rooms decorated in traditional Thai style, the De River Boutique Resort offers hardwood floors, lovely balconies with river or mountain views, satellite TV, refrigerator, air conditioning and en suite baths – some even with Jacuzzi.

De River Boutique Resort is actually about an hour outside Chiang Rai itself, but so beautiful and well worth the extra travel time.
