Fried shrimp chips are one of the Thais’ favorite snacks. With so many different brands to try, though, Manora fried shrimp chips are one of the best-selling brands in Thailand and, frankly, I’m not surprised. As, after trying just about every other brand of shrimp chips in Thailand (I love the things), if I’m buying a packet for myself, I always choose Manora.
Manora fried shrimp chips have been manufactured since 1965
According to my Thai friends, who also eat them by the bag full, the Manora brand of shrimp chips has been around forever (well, 1965 to be exact). They used to be cooked and packed by hand, though, so they weren’t as readily available everywhere as they are now, now that they’re automated, that is.
Thais seem to like them as they say they are the ‘most authentic Thai-tasting shrimp chips’. I like them as they’re always crispy and crunchy and, with the extra spices and flavorings they add, they have a bit more ‘bite’ than some of the other brands.
Where to buy Manora shrimp chips
You can find Manora shrimp chips at most supermarkets, as well as mom and pop stores and snack stalls at local markets all over Thailand. Some restaurants also serve them as part of a meal or as something you can add to your salad bar.
By the way, if you haven’t ever eaten fried shrimp chips, the best way to try them is at a branch of Sizzler as they always have a huge bowl of them on the salad bar and you can take as many as you like. They taste great with a caesar salad, by the way.
