One of the most popular places for tourists to visit in Thailand is the island of Koh Samui. Koh Samui is the third largest island in Thailand, and is popular with visitors who want to kayak, scuba dive, sail, swim or even just relax on the beach all day. It is known for its beautiful beaches, as well as for Ang Thong Marine National Park — a national park that is one of the most beautiful in the country. So, what is Koh Samui, Thailand really like?
Once you get there, you’ll find a sleepy tropical island complete with white sandy beaches, blue ocean, lapping waves and coconut trees — yes, you’ll really feel like you fell into a movie.
The island itself is only 25 kilometers across but, as much of the middle of it is dense, uninhabitable jungle, the area of Koh Samui you can see is actually quite small.
But, do visit the old capital of the island, Nathon, as it’s a wonderfully small town you can walk around just to soak up the old-world atmosphere, and make sure you eat as much of the local food as possible – the Massaman curry is out of this world.
Of course, Koh Samui is a prime tourist spot so it’s very developed and ‘touristy’, but as a place to go for a few days to relax, get some sun, do a bit of swimming, eat delicious seafood and enjoy the night dancing, you really can’t beat it.
You will also find, compared to many other beach resort places in other parts of the world, you can still have an inexpensive beach vacation here.
If you’re planning on a trip to Koh Samui, first of all, stay for a few days as there is so much to see and do including some truly excellent Koh Samui shopping.

And to find out what Koh Samui is really like? Well, go there, of course. I can’t really tell you, as Koh Samui is different things to different people, depending on what you are looking for.
