An interesting psychological advantage went to the Pheu Thai party today for Thailand’s general election in July. All political parties and their candidates were at an enormous event this morning to register their candidates and to draw a number for their position on the ballot.
Pheu Thai, the party of ousted-by-military-coup former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra drew the number one spot, the most coveted spot out there. The whoops and appplause from Pheu Thai when the number was pulled said it all. The candidate running as prime ministerial candidate for Pheu Thai is new political entrant, Yingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin’s sister, and she was definitely all smiles when the number one came up.
The Democrat Party of current prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva only managed to draw number 10. Of course, later, Abhisit said he didn’t want to pull a number higher than that. Hmmmmm. Why don’t we believe him?
