After promising there wouldn’t be a vaccine shortage just over a week ago, the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) now admits there is a vaccine shortage in Thailand.
A shortage that will likely get worse, as there apparently aren’t any vaccine deliveries expected this week.
No word yet though on whether any vaccines will be being delivered next week.
This means most hospitals and medical centers around Thailand that have scheduled vaccinations for hundreds of thousands of Thais this week will be forced to postpone those vaccinations.
The CCSA’s Gen Nattapon Nakpanich still has confidence the planned 6 million vaccinations would still be given by the end of the month, he told reporters in a media briefing today, although he didn’t elaborate where those vaccines would be coming from.
Meanwhile, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Public Health Ministry, and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul spent part of the weekend blaming each other for the vaccine shortage in Thailand.
At the end of the fracas via Facebook posts and Anutin’s appearance on Channel 3, the general public was no nearer as to who was to blame.
All they know is several hundred thousand Thais and foreigners around the country were expecting to be vaccinated against Covid-19 this week.
As it stands right now, most of them won’t be.
