Is Chiang Rai beautiful? Yes, it really is one of the loveliest places in Thailand
Many people who visit Chiang Rai, Thailand do not know very much about it when they book their trip. I know I didn’t when I first went there.
One of the first things people usually want to know when it comes to traveling to that area of northern Thailand, however, is just one thing “Is Chiang Rai beautiful?”. Because they hear it is the northernmost city in Thailand, that it is on the Mae Kok River and that it is surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of open countryside, hills, plains and close to the mighty Mekong River. So it must be beautiful, right?
To that I have to say Chiang Rai, and its surrounding countryside, is one of the most beautiful areas of the world I have ever visited. And much of it is still quite unspoiled. Much more so than Thailand’s other popular northern city, Chiang Mai.
But if you really want to know “Is Chiang Rai beautiful?”, all you really have to do is watch this stunning time lapse video from talented Thai filmmaker Saengthit Kamlangchai.
A time lapse video filmed in and around Chiang Rai and showing its thick jungles where people go trekking or to visit the hill tribes, boats sailing down the Mae Kok River, temples and open-air food stalls, and even the famous, and incredibly ornate, gold Chiang Rai Clock Tower.
And by the way, if you want to see something really beautiful in Chiang Rai, stop by the clock tower right in the center of town just before 7pm, 8pm or 9pm. That’s when there is a lovely light and sound show that is well worth seeing.
As for the rest of Chiang Rai and its surrounding area, watch Saengthit Kamlangchai’s time lapse video below, and know you made the right decision to visit there if you wanted to go somewhere beautiful. Because Chiang Rai? It really, truly is.
