Beijing, China’s capital city, is a phenomenal city and one of the most traveled to destinations in Asia. Home of the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Summer Palace, Beijing is also home to many budget hotels.
Budget hotels in China are often of a lower quality than similar hotels in other Asian cities like Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and are higher priced, but these three best budget hotels offer some of the best low-price accommodation in Beijing.
Citycourt Hotel, Beijing – If you’re looking for an authentic Chinese experience, then staying at the Citycourt Hotel in Beijing will thrill you. Citycourt Hotel is a traditional courtyard hotel in the center of Beijing’s Historical Conservation Zone. In buildings that are more than 500 years old and surrounded by hutongs, the hotel offers either dorm beds or private rooms of various sizes.
Each guest room has wireless internet, cable TV, tea and coffee making facilities, en suite bathroom and a mini bar. Breakfast is also included in the room rate. The hotel is beautifully decorated (look at the website for the cutest photos), very clean and the staff, although they don’t speak much English, are lovely.
Dorm beds begin at an unbelievable $8 a night and private rooms at $32, a true budget hotel that offers superb quality accommodation.

Sitting on the City Walls Courtyard Hotel – Come on, you just have to stay here for the hotel name alone. But, it’s not just the name that makes this Beijing budget hotel a must-stay. The hotel is within walking distance to the Forbidden City, and is another courtyard hotel located in a historic hutong area that’s inaccessible to motor traffic, so it’s very quiet.
Accommodation is either a dorm room bed or private rooms. Each private room comes with internet access, air conditioning and linens. It is a backpacker hotel, but beautifully clean, with excellent reviews on many travel websites. The hotel has a small restaurant, offers luggage and bicycle storage and the staff is lovely. They’re also known for their guided tour to the Great Wall, which many guests end up signing up for.
Beds in dorm rooms begin at $15 a night and double or twin private rooms at $59.

Peking International Youth Hostel – Featured in National Geographic Traveler Magazine as one of the best budget hotels/youth hostels in the world, you have to see Peking International Youth Hostel to believe it. Probably one of the most beautiful youth hostels and budget hotels in the world too, it was designed by the owner who is an interior designer and it shows.
The hotel is located right in the center of Beijing and within walking distance of many of the famous tourist attractions, including Tiananmen Square.
Dorm room beds are available as well as private rooms from singles to double rooms. All private rooms have ensuite baths and air conditioning. The hotel has a lovely restaurant that serves not only Chinese food but pizzas, sandwiches etc.
Reviews are glowing for Peking International Youth Hostel with every one saying the staff is wonderful and the hotel phenomenal. For budget travelers, this really is the place to stay in Beijing.
