Even though the Thai government and many other officials have said over and over that inner Bangkok won’t be flooded, it now looks like it’s official. It will.
Dr. Seri Suprathit, the only Thai water expert anyone is listening to any more, says the Sukhumvit area is right on target to be hit by massive flooding as Klong Saen Saeb, the canal that runs through much of downtown Bangkok, will not be able to handle the flood water.
With floods the speed they are moving at the moment, flooding is expected to start hitting inner Bangkok in the next couple of days.
Victory Monument, just a few stops before Siam and the Sukhumvit area on the sky train route, is said to be likely to flood by Wednesday or Thursday. While not on the Klong Saen Saeb route, Victory Monument is right in the path of the water coming down from Don Mueang and Vibhavadi Road.
As for places that will be hit if Klong Saen Saeb cannot handle the water, areas it runs through include the Siam Square area, Pratunam, Chidlom, Wireless Road, Thonglor, Wat Noi and Ramkamhaeng.
If you are in any of these areas, or anywhere close to Klong Saen Saeb, it might be prudent to move your things to higher floors and eventually yourself with them.
