As the number of domestic tourists taking advantage of the Thai government’s plan to boost tourism has fallen short of what the government expected, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has begun to target expats currently living in the country.
The Expat Travel Deal 2020 campaign will kick off on the 11th of September and run through the 13th of September, 2020 at the Quartier Gallery at the EmQuartier shopping mall in Bangkok.
Doors will open at 10 am every day, and the event will run all three days until 10 pm.
The latest TAT tourism campaign is an effort to encourage expats living in Thailand to travel domestically, and to take advantage of hundreds of expat travel deals on flights, hotels, wellness centers, golf courses and other places of interest while they do so.
There will also be demonstrations of various Thai handicrafts at the travel fair, as well as a number of interesting tourism-related talks.
A talk that may be of great interest to those concerned about environmental issues and animal rights in the kingdom is The New Era of Elephant Care Tourism by the Thai Elephant Alliance Association’s Theerapat Trungprakan.
Travel packages customized towards expats will be available, although be aware any expat wanting to take advantage of these deals will have to present their passport to be eligible.
This is presumably so that your legal residency in Thailand can be checked before booking a package can be finalized.
It is also possible many of these ‘deals’ targeting expats will be at prices higher than you would pay if you booked trips around Thailand yourself, as events like this do tend to concentrate on higher-end travel-related businesses.
That is why it is recommended you research current costs on flights, trips, hotel and golfing packages to Thai destinations you are interested in visiting before you attend the fair, as you may find it is cheaper booking them yourself.
Entry to Expat Travel Deal 2020 is free and includes a live jazz band. There will also be several restaurants serving Thai food in attendance.
In other words, while you may not be sure if you want to book a trip in Thailand at the moment, the Expat Travel Deal 2020 fair still sounds like a fun event.
