Australian airline Qantas Airways has announced they will be resuming flights from Sydney to Bangkok and Phuket starting in January, 2022.
This after Australia’s borders have been shut down to the international community for almost 20 months due to the Australian government’s panic over Covid-19.
Qantas Airways flying from Sydney to Bangkok and Phuket starting in January, 2022 is two months earlier than had originally been planned.
Unless, of course, the Australian government panics and shuts the country down again if Covid-19 cases begin to rise.
Unfortunately, many people will not be able to take Quantas flights from Sydney to Bangkok and Phuket on the return leg, as the Australian government has announced the only people that will be able to book seats are Australian citizens, permanent residents and their families.
At least for the foreseeable future.
That means Thais, or anyone else currently in Thailand and not an Australian citizen, resident or family member will not be able to take advantage of flights back to Australia.
In other words, effectively continuing to keep Australia shut off to most international visitors for months longer while much of the rest of the world is now open.
The Qantas flights from Sydney to Bangkok will begin on January 14th, 2022 and will fly five return flights a week.
The Qantas flights from Sydney to Phuket will begin two days earlier on January 12th, but will only fly three times a week.
