Review: Citadines Hotel on Soi 16 in Bangkok, Thailand

A hotel I’ve been recommending over and over to all my visitors to Bangkok, Thailand is Citadines on Sukhumvit Soi 16. Citadines is what’s known as an ‘apart hotel’, which means it’s very much like an apartment but with all the amenities of a hotel. Citadines on Soi 16, I think, is one of the loveliest hotels in Bangkok and here’s why.

The Staff at Citadines – I went into the Citadines apart hotel to ask to look at a room as my parents will be visiting Bangkok soon, and it’s one of the hotels I’m considering for them. The staff at the reception desk were extremely helpful and immediately showed me one of the available rooms. The staff member I spoke to also had excellent English skills, so it’s a lot less likely any problems would be unsolvable if she’s typical of the rest of Citadines staff.

The Rooms at Citadines – The rooms at Citadines apart hotel are very much like small apartments. They’re lovely and modern, very light and airy, with hardwood floors, extremely fashionable and modern furniture and decor and all the mod cons. Citadines has either studio or one bedroom apartments (I looked at both), but they all have separate living areas with a work space, and a TV. One thing I loved was, in the studio rooms I looked at, the TV was viewable from both the living room and the bedroom – a nice touch. Suites also come with iron and ironing board, high-speed Internet, hairdryer, and satellite TV. The best thing though is the little kitchen area with microwave, kettle, grill, toaster, refrigerator and all the equipment to actually cook your own meals if you like.

I absolutely loved the rooms at Citadines and made up my mind, there and then, that I’d be booking one for my parents.

The Facilities at Citadines – There’s a cafe and a restaurant, baby sitting service if you come with the kiddies, laundry facilities so you can do your own laundry, a small gym, a business centre for all your business needs and, as I mentioned, high-speed Internet.

The Location of Citadines, Soi 16 – Citadines on Soi 16 in Bangkok is in one of the best locations in the city. With less than a five minute walk from the sky train and underground train stations, it couldn’t be easier to get around the city from here. It’s also on one of the best sois (small lanes) in Bangkok as it’s quiet, but still loaded with coffee shops, restaurants, a supermarket, a fabulous little local market with some excellent bargains on clothing, shoes, jewelry, Thai crafts etc., and even a Starbucks in Exhange Tower at the end of the soi.

There’s also one of my favorite cafes in Bangkok, Coffee Alley, right next door, which serves breakfast and lunch, excellent coffee and tea drinks, and even has a cute little garden if you like to sit outside.

Prices at Citadines, Soi 16 – One of the best deals at Citadines Soi 16, is the price. A studio apartment currently starts at around 1,800 baht per night ($52), which is an absolute steal especially for the expensive location. If you want a big one-bedroom apartment, they’re still only 2,500 baht to begin ($72) and is well worth the price for the extra room.

Citadines has now become one of my favorite hotels in Bangkok. You seriously can’t beat the location or the price, and with rooms that are really lovely and staff that is helpful and friendly, there’s no reason at all not to stay at Citadines.
