Siam Center reopens today, January 11th, 2013. Siam Center is one of the largest and most popular shopping malls in Bangkok, but has been closed for the last six months for a major renovation. The renovation is now complete and Siam Center will reopen with an event called “Let the Legendary Party Begin”. Yippee. I’ll be there.
Siam Center has always taken a back seat to its next door neighbor, Siam Paragon, which was a shame as it’s always been a very nice shopping mall. But, with this new renovation, the owners now say not only will the Siam Center reopening party be one of the biggest retail events in Bangkok — ever — but the new mall itself is simply superb. After all, it should be when the renovation has cost more than 1.8 billion baht.
The Siam Center reopening event itself is said to have cost a fair chunk of money, with attendees to the event including Gossip Girl stars Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick. There’s going to be a pop-art exhibit featuring work from Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, and the first 1,000 shoppers through the doors will be given free 1,000 baht ($33) shopping vouchers.
Don’t miss checking out the massive and brand new Magnum Cafe as well. Located on the ground floor, it serves their world-famous ice cream among other things. But, don’t get too comfortable. It’s going to be a temporary thing just until May, when it will be moving to a different location and, apparently, a much smaller one.
